REFUGE
An Exhibition of Client-Created Artwork
In 2011, ReStart launched a new art program for clients to learn new skills, express themselves artistically, and explore the therapeutic and enriching properties of art-making. Thanks to a generous grant from the Dermody Properties Foundation, we have contracted with VSA Nevada to provide weekly art classes at our facilities here on Record Street. In July ReStart will be transformed into an exhibit space where clients' artwork will be displayed as part of Artown 2011.
Through this exhibit, which we've entitled Refuge, we hope to offer a unique perspective from atypical artists who are all too often invisible, and perhaps challenge some common misconceptions of the homeless within our community. Additionally, through reinvesting proceeds from donations and silent auctions of the art, we hope to make this a self-renewing program for years to come.
The opening reception will take place on Friday, July 1st from 2-7 PM with refreshments and original music composed by one of our clients! There will also be ongoing exhibit times every Wednesday in July from 5-7 PM and a closing reception on Saturday, July 30th from 10 AM - 3 PM. Original artworks will be on sale through a silent auction which will go towards funding future art programming at ReStart. Come down (suggested entry donation of $5) and view the facilities and some exceptional original artwork.
